West Midlands Police

West Midlands is the largest Police Force in the UK after the Metropolitan Police Force and, like every other UK Force, is subject to strict Home Office criteria for the way that they record crimes and incidents. Additionally they have challenging accuracy targets to meet. Accuracy in crime and incident recording is important as it increases both public confidence in any statistics that are produced and also helps Central Government to develop more relevant policing policies and strategies

Capable People has been working with the Compliance & Assurance team of West Midlands Police for a number of years. In that time we have taken almost 100 of the force’s staff through IRCA registered Internal Auditor training. This training has helped the force critique their approach to quality assurance, and also to communicate the importance of performance management in modern policing throughout the force. As a direct result of our work with West Midlands Police, we have also helped the forces of South Yorkshire, Essex, Kent and Lancashire in the same way

EDF Energy

EDF Energy is one of Europe’s leading energy suppliers, and Capable People is proud to be working with them to help them develop support processes capable of keeping our lights on for many years to come. The energy supply industry is highly regulated and increasingly competitive. In this industry you simply can’t afford any inefficiencies or traceability weaknesses. We actively support EDF Energy’s ISO 9001 registration in the B2B operation, and we’ve also been privileged to have trained some of their operational staff to IRCA Lead Auditor level at Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station

VC Train

VC Train is the umbrella organisation of a consortium of 102 voluntary and community sector service providers. It may surprise many people that small organisations in the VolCom sector operate formal quality assurance systems, but they do. In fact they have to. In today’s world, funding for the very valuable community work that these organisations do is becoming harder and harder to acquire. Moreover the providers of what funding there is are increasingly keen to ensure it won’t be used inefficiently

In the second half of 2009, Capable People began working actively with VC Train and a number of their member organisations to help them develop structured internal quality assurance processes. This has involved an extensive program of IRCA Internal Auditor training, and facilitation  support for a number of members who have chosen to become formally registered to ISO 9001. Capable People is proud to work alongside these people and hope that we can help them positively impact our society in the future, despite these challenging economic times

Gloucester College

When Peter White, Director of Student Services at Gloucester College, was looking to develop a more transparent management framework to help his department manage more effectively, and help them meet their Ofsted requirements, we were only to pleased to help

Student Services was already registered to Investors in People and Matrix, so the extra step that was required to achieve ISO 9001 need not have been a big one, and we made sure the process was as simple and easy as it could be

After performing an additional gap analysis on the department, we then conducted a number of process mapping workshops with key staff, helped them develop the necessary policies and procedures, trained a number of staff as Internal Auditors, allowed the new systems a little time to mature then Bob was our uncle! In January 2009 they successfully achieved ISO 9001:2008 with glowing feedback, and since that time have introduced the marketing department into the scope

From our point of view it was particularly satisfying being able to build the system from scratch, because that made the job of developing documents that really suited the users very easy indeed, so the partnership approach we took really worked

The success of the department has not gone unnoticed within the wider College, and we’re now happy to be working alongside the IT department to help them do exactly the same thing

International Cuisine

International Cuisine make ready meals for a wide range of supermarkets and high profile brands. Their safety record is actually very good, but like any other company with a good safety record, they worry about complacency setting in. Throughout 2009 Capable People were happy to develop a safety awareness module for all their managers. In order to connect the material with the participants, we incorporated a few site photographs to add real context to the event. Maybe even a few things maybe the managers would prefer to think didn’t happen. This made the sessions incredibly effective, and in 2010 International Cuisine plan to roll out something similar to all remaining staff
